Internet porn collectors around the world rejoiced this morning, as Hitachi announced that it would produce a 1-terabyte (1,000-gigabyte) for consumers. The drive, called the Deskstar 7K1000, will cost $399, less than the price of two individual 500-gigabyte drives.
In addition to the consumer version, Hitachi plans on introducing an enterprise version and a ‘CineStar’ version, which would be for use with DVR and set top boxes.
Seagate, a Hitachi competitor, is also expected to ship a 1-terabyte drive in the first half of 2007.
