Vegas is Calling…Literally

Well, we’re starting to get the feeling that Vegas wants us to come back–last week, we got a call from a certain hotel that we stayed at last time, inviting us to call their marketing department to see about rates. I knew I played there a fair amount, but I didn’t think I played at high enough amounts to warrant a call–then again, the trip was five months ago, so maybe they lowered their threshold.

Beer Pong for $50,000. No wonder the terrorists hate us. What are the odds that ESPN is airing this by 2009?

The three day “competitive beer pong extravaganza” wraps up tomorrow at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Vegas (been there 5 times in the last two years, and I have no idea where that is). It’s the third year of the event, which started with a $10,000 prize in 2005. Last year, fresh out of the University of Michigan, Jason Coben and Nick Velissaris beat out more than 160 other competitors to split the $10,000 prize.… more>>

Back from Vegas!

Well, we actually got back from Vegas Tuesday night. We were going to blog while we were there, but we didn’t get around to getting the computer out. And we were going to blog when we got back, but…well…we didn’t right away. Tough.

The trip went well–won some money in the sports book, won even more at the tables, and didn’t get arrested. Unfortunately, we missed the ‘Pole-a-Palooza’ at The Mirage on Tuesday night. Next time, better planning.

The New Frontier was imploded in Las Vegas on Tuesday morning, mere days before Manlyweb makes its triumphant return to Vegas, marking the end of another icon of Vegas. While not as well known as many of its neighbors (and frankly not as high of a profile implosion as the Stardust’s demise last March), the New Frontier was a Las Vegas Strip mainstay since 1942, was considered the Strip’s first themed casino, and hosted Elvis Presley’s debut in the city in 1956.
